Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the right Crystal Coast rental:

  • Start by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Pelican's Roost 2, Oceanside Condo in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
