Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking your prefect Crystal Coast rental home:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. 5 minute walk to the beach, centrally located, newly refurbished has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email the host before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
