How to book the best vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 5 Bedroom, Oceanfront Home with Elevator on Ocean Ridge in Atlantic Beach, NC (The Amadeus) has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
