Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your Crystal Coast vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sweet Dreams, Oceanfront Home in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
