Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pine Knoll Nest
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
