Strategies to get the optimal rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Crystal Coast area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Neuse River Front has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
