How to book the best vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Pebble Beach F-103, Oceanside Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
