Strategies to get the perfect Crystal Coast rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable rental within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your group select trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Viewpoint, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
