Tricks and tips for getting the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your Crystal Coast vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking yourrental home:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 3 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is best for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
