Finding the best vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking the bestrental home:

  • Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Why Knot Getaway...Rooftop with WaterView! Unit D has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
