The John Wright Stanly House is a unique stop along a historic New Bern exploration, and is a stately 1780s home that was designed by the same architect who created Tryon Palace, found just a block or two away. Built from hand-hewn longleaf pine, the John Wright Stanly House is still one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in the southeastern United States.
Even though the home has had a number of owners, (and has even been moved twice from its original location), the plan of the home remains roughly the same as it was in the 1780s. Two grand stairwells expand across the home’s two stories, and the interior is just as vast and striking to modern visitors as it was for guests of centuries past. The rooms have been outfitted with a wealth of period antiques and furnishings to create an authentic atmosphere, and to allow visitors to feel like they have truly stepped back in time. Open occasionally for tours, visitors can marvel at the array of artifacts, and learn all about the home from its Colonial roots to its present day prestige. The Bogue Sound is one of the primary enticing backdrops on the Crystal Coast. Located on a peaceful huge private wooded lot with giant vistas over well known Brices Creek. Bring all of your water toys as there is a boat ramp a quarter of a mile away! While you launch your boat, jet ski or kayak please appreciate Merchants Grocery famed cheeseburger or stop by early for a hearty breakfast. At nighttime you can head into downtown for a seafood dinner or stay at home and relax on the forty foot back porch with fantastic vistas over the creek. Watch the wildlife from the dock and if you are extremely lucky you could see a dolphin swim by! Don t forget to bring your fishing rod for some superb bass, crappie, brim, striper or catfishing. You also have use of a SHARED dock that is behind The Grey Goose (off to the side of the property not directly behind the home) used by two rental cabins that are on the other side of this 1.3 acre property.
