Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Crystal Coast restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Home - Newly Renovated - Beach House - Emerald Isle Point Great for Familes has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

  • Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
