Strategies for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to reserve a Crystal Coast rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Crystal Coast area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Crystal Coast vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Darling Cottage Nestled In Our Garden! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
