Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the best rental home:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Beautiful Oceanfront Condo on the Southern Outer Banks has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
