How to find the best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and choosing the perfect Crystal Coast vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Village West #20, Oceanside Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Crystal Coast destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
