Tricks and tips to get the optimal Crystal Coast vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your group select date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Toes in the Sand ???? Drink in Hand! 2 Decks, Views throughout, Great location! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
