Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Crystal Coast area. Booking your Crystal Coast vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and choose the right Crystal Coast rental home:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Time Out West, Almost Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
