Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Crystal Coast vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Crystal Coast area. To book the best vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing and booking a perfectrental:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Starfish DOG-FRiENDLY in the Historic District has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
