Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Crystal Coast area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Colony by the Sea 110 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Have a great stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
