Tricks and tips to get the perfect Crystal Coast rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in Atlantic Beach. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Crystal Coast vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spacious pool view 4BR townhome, short walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
