Tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • To start, have your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sounds Perfect - Bright and airy sound front home w\/dock. 2 blocks to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
