Booking the best vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Sound Of The Sea East 107, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
