Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, shift your family's Crystal Coast trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • To start, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Sangria Sunset, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Crystal Coast attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
