Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summer is high season in the Crystal Coast area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the perfect rental:

  • To start, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Point Emerald A-205, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
