Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern rental experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in New Bern. To get the best value, try changing your family's Crystal Coast vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick your Crystal Coast rental:

  • Start by having your group choose a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Our Getaway Two has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
