Our top Crystal Coast rental booking tips and tricks:

When to book a Crystal Coast rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. OCEANFRONT home with breathtaking views, East - Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
