Strategies for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Crystal Coast vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. OCEANFRONT home with breathtaking views East! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's an individual Crystal Coast attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
