Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Crystal Coast vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book your prefectvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Footprints, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 10 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
