Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, shift your family's Crystal Coast vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Crystal Coast area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • Start by having your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Family Beach Vacation\n has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
