New Bern vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Crystal Coast area. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family decide on the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Breathe Inn on the Neuse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
