Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Breathe Inn on the Neuse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
