Tricks and tips for getting the best New Bern rental home experience:

When to visit New Bern & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting and booking your prefect Crystal Coast rental home:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Breathe Inn on the Neuse has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Crystal Coast beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
