Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Crystal Coast rental home:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. \"A Lil' Nauti\" - 2 Bedroom Condo - Ocean Views, Emerald Isle, NC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
