How to get the best vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking your Crystal Coast rental home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Waterfront Home with Dock - Short walk to Ocean has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
