Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the perfect rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Westport D-24, Soundfront Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a particular Crystal Coast attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
