Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best vacation rental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Third floor with one of the best views of the ocean at Pier Pointe has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
