Tricks and tips to get the best Crystal Coast vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer time is high season in Beaufort. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Gray Whale Cottage-Pet Friendly Home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Crystal Coast destination you love, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your contract.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
