Sticking to your spending budget:

• Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
• June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
• Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
• Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
• During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
• Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
• Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
• Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
• Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective.
