Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best vacation home:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sound of the Sea West 213 - Almost Oceanfront 1BR, 1BA, complex amenities has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
