Strategies to get the very best rental home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Shore Beats Workin', Almost Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
