Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Crystal Coast area. Reserve your Crystal Coast vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
