Tricks and tips to get the best Crystal Coast vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To book the largest rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose and book yourrental:

  • First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Islandia East - Oceanfront Duplex: 3BR, 3BA - downtown Emerald Isle! has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
