Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Book your Crystal Coast rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly coastal retreat with games, W\/D, & patio - walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
