Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Crystal Coast area:

  • To start, have your family commit to dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Bright, cheery, well appointed 3BR, 3.5B Townhome has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
