Strategies for getting the best Crystal Coast vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Crystal Coast area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking a perfect Crystal Coast vacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. WELCOME TO PARADISE!! Beautiful oceanfront 3 BR Townhome with amazing views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
