Booking the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Shipwatch Atlantic Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Crystal Coast attraction you love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
