Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Crystal Coast area. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Crystal Coast vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Crystal Coast area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Crystal Coast visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the best vacation home in the Crystal Coast area:

  • To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly cottage across from the water in a walkable neighborhood has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
