Finding the best Crystal Coast vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Pine Knoll Shores. To get the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Crystal Coast restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply Crystal Coast area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Crystal Coast area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental home in the Crystal Coast area:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Toes in the Sand-Oceanfront, Beautifully Remodeled, 1st Floor Unit, Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Crystal Coast vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
